Just now, Micki and I saved a large bunny from a crow! Micki was leaving for Mass, and hollered from the porch that she saw a big crow flying up from our yard, carrying a rabbit! "And it dropped it, right over there," she said, pointing. On the lawn on the other side of our dirt road, lay something, and we went to check. Sure enough, there was a half-grown rabbit, lying on its side. We thought it was dead, but I saw it was still breathing. As we approached, the bunny rolled up onto its belly and stared at us. I walked up to it, and it stood up. It was so stunned that I thought it might let me pick it up, and I kept talking to it as soothingly as I could. It slowly hopped away from me, and finally began running across the large lawn and toward the woods where we knew it lived with its mother.
Micki and I were so relieved, but when the bunny was only half way across the big yard, Micki shouted, "There it is!" and pointed up at the crow coming down to grab its prey again! I ran toward the bunny, and yelled the most ferocious crow imitation I could muster. And the crow veered off and flew away. The bunny made it home.
