I kissed a girl for the first time when I was five, in kindergarten during recess. I was talking with a nice girl out on the playground who was very shy. A bunch of boys came around us, teasing and taunting, repeating, "Dale's got a girlfriend! Dale's got a girlfriend!" I saw this shy girl cringe, and turned and glared at the boys. Then, to show that their teasing meant nothing to me, I kissed the girl on the cheek right in front of them. The boys all walked away hooting with laughter, but they left us alone quickly, knowing they were wasting their time. And I'll never forget the look the girl gave me. Her cheeks turned bright red and she gave me the sweetest smile. I like to think that, because of that positive act, she felt better about herself for the rest of her life--just like I feel, by her positive response.
