THE BUTTER RUM CARTOON LOGO

The Butter Rum Cartoon logo was originally created by Dale Lund in 1969, while he was serving in the United States Army. The rising sun peeking around a difficult hill symbolizes hope, something nice waiting for us beyond the difficulties of life.

The first two “members” of the Butter Rum Cartoon were Dale Lund and Mike Torrence, Dale’s old Army buddy, nicknamed Bear. They commonly used the BRC logo in correspondence, etc. In the early 1970’s, Dale and Bear hiked up Mount Higgins, near Oso, Washington; and from the awesome peak of the mountain one can gaze eastward and see these two peaks in the distance.

The two men spent the night atop Higgins, beneath the roof of a dilapidated woodshed. Awaking at dawn, they were surprised by God’s apparent confirmation of the Butter Rum Cartoon logo, for peeking around the right side of the distant peak was the morning sun, looking to them exactly like the logo. The sun is drawn here in the position the actual sun was in on that beautiful morning.

And so we of the Butter Rum Cartoon take pride in our logo, and take heart at the hope it symbolizes.
