The P-51 MUSTANG

When in elementary school, I was fascinated by airplanes, but even more fascinated by my brother, Paul. He built models of them, from scratch, designing most of them himself, and they flew. Paul had already moved away from home and was going to college in Seattle, and I was so excited when he'd come home for a visit, usually bringing me some sort of gift, and always willing to do something fun with me. One weekend he took me to my first air show, and I was amazed by the aerial acrobatics. There was a World War II, P-51 Mustang fighter plane sitting on the ground, and while Paul was buying me a hotdog, it was announced that the Mustang would be starting up and taking off. I was too little to see over the crowd, so Paul put me up on his shoulders to watch what is now my favorite fighter plane. The engine started and was, to me, incredibly loud. I was awestruck, and it took some time finally to hear my brother over the plane noise, shouting, "Hey! Hey!" 1. Some experiences are similar to the experiences of others. Air planes and trains seem to cause lots of excitement. I had an experience like this. I stopped at Roosvelt Roads Naval Base (Puerto Rico)and navy jets were taking off. My son was with me and we watched the roaring jets take off. Lots of excitement and lots of people watching from the highway. It must have been very exciting for you Dale, because you were only a small boy.
