When there were still mental institutions, our high school class took a field trip to Northern State Hospital at Sedro Woolley WA. As we were getting off the school bus, a little lady excitedly asked each student, "Did you come to see me? Did you come to see me?" All the students were getting the willies and passing her as quickly as possible. But finally one girl in my class stopped and smiled at her, and said, "Yes, I did." The patient was overjoyed, and the two of them took off together. We didn't see either again until the bus was leaving. This beautiful classmate cared enough to bring lasting joy and peace into a lonely woman's life, and I never forgot it.
