ARROW PRAYERS

 On rising in the morning:

- I laid me down and slept, and rise again, for the Lord sustaineth me.

- Preserve my lying down and my rising up, from this time forth for evermore.

Before sleeping:

- Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit.

- Lighten mine eyes, that I sleep not in death.

- I will lay me down in peace and take my rest, for it is thou, Lord, only that makest me dwell in safety.

When lying sleepless:

- With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early.

- I come to thee, my God, for quiet and repose, and new supplies of strength to drooping nature, wearied with the labours and cares of the past day.

- Take me under the covering of thy wings, and let thy loving-kindness and thy truth always preserve me.

Upon leaving home:

- The Lord preserve my going out and my coming in; from this time forth for evermore.

- O give thine Angels charge over me, to keep me in all my ways.

- Order my steps according to thy Word, so shall no wickedness have dominion over me.

Before worship:

- I will worship toward thy holy Temple.

- My soul hath a desire and longing to enter into the courts of the Lord.

- Blessed are they that dwell in thy house; they will be always praising thee.

At the beginning of work:

- Prosper thou the work of my hands, O Lord, O prosper thou my handy-work.

- Guide me with thy counsel.

- To the greater glory of thy Name, O God, I approach this work, and offer it to thee in union with the infinite merits of Jesus Christ.

- Whatsoever I do in word or deed, may I do all in the Name of the Lord Jesus

On completing work:

- O Jesus, I commend unto thee this work of mine to be perfected and finished by thee, and I offer it unto thee in union with thine own works.

- Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.

Amid temptation:

- Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

- Lord, help me with thy grace, that I may overcome this temptation.

- Help me, Lord, in this moment of trial.

- O God, make speed to save me; O Lord, make haste to help me.

- O Christ, save me; bid the tempter depart from me.

- I can do all things through Christ, who hath strengthened me.

- Make me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

After falling into sin:

- O God, against thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight.

- I acknowledge my transgression; and am sorry for my sin.

- Lord, be merciful to me, for the merits of thy Son Jesus Christ, lay not this sin to my charge.

- I will go to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven, and against thee, I am no more worthy to be called thy son.

To cultivate a sense of God's presence:

- Thou God seest me; I am thine, O save me.

- Wherever I am, whatever I do, thou art with me; O keep me in thy fear all the day long.

- Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh.

- Heart of Jesus, burning with love for me, inflame my heart with love for thee.

For guidance in perplexity or doubt:

- Speak, Lord, for thy servant heareth.

- Show me thy ways, O Lord, and teach me thy paths.

- Thy word is a lantern unto my feet, and a light unto my paths.

Before any difficult conversation:

- Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, and keep the door of my lips.

- Lord, keep my tongue from evil, and my lips that they speak no guile.

Amid frustration and impatience:

- Learn of me, for I am meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

- O Lord, make to rest in meekness and lowliness of mind.

When alone:

- Help me now, O God, to do all things in thy sight, who seest in secret.

- Shut out, O God, from my heart, everything that offends thee.

- By thy mighty power, repress all my wandering thoughts, and tread down Satan under my feet.

When in sorrow:

- It is the Lord, let him do what seemeth good to him.

- Not my will, but thine be done.

- Lord, what wilt thou have me do?

When dejected:

- Why art thou so full of heaviness, O my soul, and why art thou so disquieted within me?

- Put thy trust in God; for I will yet give him thanks for the help of his countenance.

- My soul cleaveth unto the dust, O quicken thou me in thy way.

- Show me the light of thy countenance, and I shall be whole.

Amid anxiety:

- Come, O Lord, and visit me in peace.

- Deal with me, as thou willest, and knowest best, only bind me safe to thine everlasting love.

- Good Jesus, lead me that I may follow thee; hold me, that I may hold fast to thee; teach me, that I may choose thee alone; keep me, that I may be thine for ever.

In danger:

- I will lift up my eyes to the hills from whence cometh my help.

- O Lord, deliver us from evil.

In sickness:

- Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless, not my will but thine be done.

- Lord, offer all my sufferings to thy Father, as thou didst offer all thine agonies to him.

- Lord, strengthen me to bear my cross patiently, humbly, lovingly.

- Jesus, most tender, in thee would I trust; let me never be confounded.

Thanksgiving:

- Glory be to thee, O Lord, for thy mercy.

- Praise the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me praise his holy Name.

- What reward shall I give unto the Lord; for all the benefits that he hath done unto me.

- I will thank thee, for thou hast heard me; and art become my salvation.
