I founded the American Tarantula Society in 1978 and ran it for three years, until its 500 members in 13 countries became too much for me, added to my full-time job and growing family. It was fun, though. We were in People magazine, Playboy magazine, I was on radio and television, spoke to the Lions Club and Cub Scouts, and had a fear of public speaking! But, anything to help the misunderstood tarantula...
