POHO OIL CARMINATIVE

I found this in the Amish store when, in 1982, I used to taxi it's curator, Fanny Schwartz, around when she needed something faster than a horse and buggy.  To this day, I keep it in stock in our cupboard, replenishing it when we drive up and visit the store north of Seymour MO (no longer run by Fanny).

It can be ordered online from UNI

 POHO OIL

Directions for the use of the Oil to relieve the discomforts of the following:

ASTHMA – Rub upper parts of chest liberally with Oil, cover with towel.  Inhale fumes of Oil, and take ten drops internally with water 3 times daily.
COLDS – Put 5 to 10 drops of Oil in half glass of water and gargle several times daily. Apply small quantity of Oil to fingertip and place up each nostril.
COUGH – Rub Oil gently on external throat area.  Apply small quantity of Oil on on fingertip and place on back of tongue.  If cough persists, discontinue use and see a physician.
DENTURE SORES – Rub just a drop or so on affected areas.  Repeat as necessary.
DIARRHEA – Fifteen drops of Oil in a small glass of water; take internally and repeat after fifteen minutes, then every three hours.
EARACHE – Rub Oil in back of ear.  Moisten small wad of cotton with Oil and gently insert in aching ear.
FEVER BLISTERS / COLD SORES – Touch with Oil moistened Q-tip several times a day as needed.
FLU – Treat as for colds, and take 15 drops with water or sugar 3 times daily.

HEADACHE – Lightly massage Oil on temples and forehead.  Inhale fumes from handkerchief.  Avoid contact with eyes.
RHEUMATISM & ARTHRITIS – Bathe affected parts with hot water and dry thoroughly.  Apply Oil in generous quantity, cover with a towel.  Take 15 drops of Oil in a little water 3 times daily.  This is best done before retiring for the evening.
SINUS DISORDER – Apply a little Oil on fingertip, sniff up each nostril twice daily. Stinging sensation is temporary.  Rub forehead gently with Oil before retiring, and take 10 drops in a small glass of water for gargling.
SORE THROAT – Gently rub Oil on external throat area and apply small quantity on back of tongue.  It is also beneficial to gargle 5-10 drops of Oil in half glass of water several times daily.  If fever is present, discontinue use and see a physician.
STOMACH & BOWEL TROUBLE – For general distress, take 15 drops of Oil in small quantity of water every two hours until relieved.  If condition persists, consult physician.
VAPORIZING – Add a half-teaspoon of Oil to a quart of boiling water or electric vaporizer to relieve cold discomfort.

WARNING

The use of this product is not implied as a cure under any condition.  Never rub Oil on vigorously, nor apply saturated dressings to skin, as burning could result.  For conditions that persist or are accompanied by fever, see your doctor.  Do not use on infants.  Keep this and all medicines out of the reach of children.

REFRESHING PEPPERMINT DRINKS!

“PEPPERMINT WATER” – Add 2-4 drops of POHO Oil to a gallon of water, add ½ to 1 cup of sugar to taste.  Stir with wisk, chill and serve.  Very good on a hot summer day, and especially good when making hay!
“PEPPERMINT TEA” – Pour POHO Oil onto a teaspoon, then back into the bottle.  Whatever clings to the spoon, stir into the hot cup of tea.  This is a very relaxing drink, especially before retiring for the evening.  So many claim that they sleep better!
