KISSES AND BRAWLS
Gossip, cross-stitch, gooseberry pie,
Makeup, hair-dos and outfits,
It’s okay to giggle, okay to cry,
Okay to shave legs and armpits.
Sports talk wherever, goals, bats and balls,
Staying home from funerals when someone has died,
Being cool at parties, joining in brawls,
Hard to relate to the feelings inside.
But somehow these crazies can merge into one
And share in life’s many adventures,
Laughing and yelling and sorrows and fun
Till they’re old and shopping for dentures.
The little ones wonder to see what they’ve missed
While the older ones miss what they’ve seen,
Whom they have shut out, whom they have kissed,
And what might this rhyming verse mean.
